Welcome to our website!
From left to right: Dr. Bernhard Gruber (Principal), Johann Schmid (Vice Principal), Andrea Fürnrohr and Bernhard Sauer. We would like to welcome you to the website of the Wernher-von-Braun-Gymnasium Friedberg. We are a mixed secondary school for pupils aged about 10-19, who do their final A-level exams (Abitur) after nine respectively eight years at our school. Our school was founded in 1970 and we are providing for our local community, i.e. the town of Friedberg and the surrounding area. The WvB is currently attended by about 1200 students. We aim to provide a supportive, stimulating environment for learning that enables young people to achieve their full potential. With the help of our committed staff, students are able to make the most of their abilities and interests. We hope this website can give you an impression of what our school is like. The English version of it is still under construction, so unfortunately not every article is available in English - but we have taken care to include the most important information as well as some selected articles. Our school history: a brief outline Where does our name come from? (coming soon)
Curriculum and extra-curricular activitiesThe school year in Bavaria is divided into two terms (September - mid-February and mid-February - August). Our school provides a broad and balanced curriculum covering the subjects prescribed by the Curriculum for Bavaria as well as a large number of extra-curricular activities. All our fifth formers start with English as a first foreign language and then choose either French or Latin as a second foreign language in sixth form. Pupils have the choice between two educational branches, one focussing on Maths and Science (in this case, two foreign languages are obligatory) and the other one with emphasis on languages (three foreign languages obligatory, i.e. English, Latin and French. Latin may be replaced by Italian at a later stage). In both branches Art and Music have their due place. List of subjects (coming soon) List of extra-curricular courses, including a brief description We have a long track record of success with consistently high scores in state-wide comparative tests in Maths, German and English; certificates by the Bavarian Dept. of Education have repeatedly attested to us being one of the top 25 schools in Bavaria. A Schools Inspection in 2007 rated us to be outstanding in many areas. Our school offers a two-year course of teacher training for prospective German, English and History teachers. It also cooperates with the DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt; German Space Centre) and its school lab in Oberpfaffenhofen as well as with some departments of the University of Augsburg, i.e. the Physics and History Departments, by offering placements for students who consider entering the teaching profession. As we are generously supported by our district council, our PTA and former students, our facilities are excellent and constantly brought up to standard. We especially value our computer rooms and our new library and cafeteria where lunch is served for pupils and staff. Exchange programmesOur school has got long-standing exchange programmes with schools in France, Italy, Ireland, Romania and the US. Our exchange partners: links to their school websitesContactOur website can only offer you a flavour of the school - so if you have any enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us; we will be happy to assist you.
